Day 8: 29.9.12. Shelley Beach Caravan Park at Ceduna. Grand final day.

Following breakfast in the camp kitchen – which was at the totally opposite end of the park to our tents – which required all cars to drive up with breaky rations etc. Col was thinking there might be a chance for some hangliding off the dunes at the CP, so ….while we then proceeded into Ceduna to stock up on supplies at the Foodstore, and check out the Oysterfest Parade, Col began to get ready for flight. We had a quick lunch at the bakery after parade and some further shopping, then we raced back to see Col fly…unfortunately the winds weren’t quite right, but he did a small short flight to show us how ‘dune gooning’  goes. Milani and Kate had a short human powered flight, which made for some good photo ops.

It was then time to head back into town…some to the Pub for the grand final and a few ‘ales’ others to do some ‘drumming’ at the Oysterfest and the rest of us checked out the pier, the foreshore and the Oysterfest, which was a bit like a fete or fair. There was the sideshow alley part, some crafts et for sale, LOTS AND LOTS of Oysters to eat, various other tents with information about a range of things including Iluka mining, CAAMA Radio, Telstra and others. There was a pretty cool Kite seller – Extreme kites, that had some great kites in the air and others for sale. The licorice seller did pretty well out of us all I think…and the donuts were delicious.

The Grand Final at the pub was great, a good close game and the pub was pretty full in the bar area, but we had a great spot in the bistro, to watch and drink.

Following the GF, we had a wander along the pier – freezing cold and blustery again, there were some blokes catching blue swimmers, Dad took off for Denial Bay to wet a line, and the remainder ordered Fish and Chips for tea back at Camp Kitchen, some fueling up as well.

The Fish and Chips went down well back at camp and the boys continued the GF drinking…we met a few overseas travellers, and off to bed.
